Actually, when I was looking for caterers, a friend of mine who had been in the catering business warned me off Uptown Caterers, too. She told me that in the past they have been in some legal trouble for taking people's deposits and then not doing the event. That was enough for me to not even look into them. I concur with your caution!

In my opinion - I have been very turned off by their whole demeanor and presentation - the quote was competitive but unimpressive and failed to provide all the information and cost breakdown most provide, and I saw several terms on there which raised my alarm bells. No specific bad experience but I would use caution....
